Post-treatment after knee or hip surgery should be supported by outpatient physiotherapy. Arrange initial appointments for your rehabilitation before the operation.

Optimal physiotherapy measures can have a positive influence on your rehabilitation process. Your personal goals are individually planned and implemented in physiotherapy based on scientific findings. Good muscle strength and joint control are particularly important if you want to return to sport.
When you leave hospital, you will receive a physiotherapy prescription from us. Ideally, therapy should be started or continued in the first week after discharge from hospital.
The primary aim is to restore the function of the joint and relieve pain so that you are able to cope with everyday life independently again as soon as possible. A tolerable level of pain is important for further rehabilitation and is the top priority.
Muscle building
Once you are reasonably mobile without pain and the joint can be moved easily, you can start building up your muscles. Your physiotherapists will advise you on exercises and when you can stop using walking sticks, for example. Muscular stability and coordination are crucial for long-term, pain-free joint function. This should be well trained. If you want to return to certain sports, specific training is advisable.
On average, 2-3 physiotherapy prescriptions of 9 therapy units each are required. Depending on the sporting demands or progression, this can also be somewhat longer. In addition to direct care by the physiotherapists, there is also the option of subsequent medical training therapy (MTT), which corresponds to 3 months of equipment training on your own under the guidance of specialists.
